Alex Yee Clocks Historic Marathon Time in Valencia — And He’s Still Focused on Triathlon
Olympic triathlon champion Alex Yee has once again proven why he’s one of the most electrifying endurance athletes on the planet. Just months after capturing triathlon gold in Paris, Yee lined up for only his second-ever competitive marathon—and delivered a performance for the record books.
Racing at the Valencia Marathon, the 27-year-old crossed the line in 2:06:38, making him the second-fastest British marathoner in history. The only Brit ever to run quicker? The legendary Mo Farah.
Yee’s race was smart, steady, and supported by fellow British standout Emile Cairess, who paced him through roughly 21 miles before Yee pushed on solo. The result was a massive 4 minute 30 second improvement over his debut at the London Marathon earlier this year.
Despite the incredible breakthrough, fans hoping for a permanent move to long-course racing will have to wait—Yee has made it clear his heart remains with triathlon. His sights are already set on defending his Olympic title in Los Angeles in 2028.
At the front of the men’s race, Kenya’s John Korir stormed to victory in 2:02:24, followed by Amanal Petros of Germany and Norway’s Awet Kibrab. In the women’s race, Joyciline Jepkosgei topped the podium with a world-leading 2:14:00.
For triathlon fans, Yee’s performance is an exciting reminder of the world-class engine he brings to our sport. His marathon speed continues to elevate expectations—and inspire athletes everywhere.
