The Iconic South African Cape Town Cycle Tour - The Argus
Posted by KDF on 16th Oct 2021
Our very own MD Steve Collins just completed the 2021 South African Cape Town Cycle Tour or affectionately known as The Argus
This prestigious event is definitely a unique experience for participants and spectators alike. The Argus is an iconic race and is on the bucketlist list of many cyclists. It’s the largest individually timed cycle event in the world and usually the entry cut off is 35,000 - although due to Covid restrictions the cut off in 2021 was 18,000.
The Argus covers 109km of some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. It starts in the City Centre and heads out along the stunning Cape Town coastline and finishes up at the Rugby Stadium just outside the waterfront. The route has challenges in terms of hills and climbs but also some fabulous flat and downhill sections.
Steve felt that the Argus was both a race and a tour. He said “it’s the first time I’ve had the opportunity to do the event and I was hoping for a good time, but the I soon realised that as it’s such a beautiful course, I really wanted to take in every kilometre of the stunning scenery, it was awesome and I’m still buzzing. The organisation was incredible and it was great to be able to enjoy the ride, scenery and the crowds without worrying too much about my time".
Even more rewarding is the fact that it’s all a non-profit event and all proceeds go to charity, and go to funding social upliftment and cycling development throughout South Africa.
